Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL)
Promoted and luanched as a company by Innovate UK with co-funding from Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), CIEL is part of four agri-tech Centres in the UK setup to drive industry led innovation as part of the UK’s agritech strategy. From cell to system, CIEL delivers global leading livestock production and product quality research to deliver improved food quality and farming systems for UK industry.
AgDevCo is a social impact investor and agribusiness project developer. They invest patient capital in the form of debt and equity into early stage agribusinesses and act as promoter or co-promoter of greenfield agriculture opportunities.
Wellspring has been developing investment projects for AgDevCo and consulting for AgDevCo\‘s investees since 2011.
From March 2014-Feb 2015 Michael Shaw held the position of Executive Director and Country Director in Tanzania for AgDevCo, developing a range of investments and managing the existing country portfolio of nine investments with commitments of US$21million.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.
Since 2010, Wellspring has worked with many B&MGF grantees in the livestock sector and also contracted directly for the Foundation on market oriented initiatives relating to agriculture.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations\’ (FAO) mandate is to improve nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standard of living in rural populations and contribute to global economic growth.
Wellspring have consulted for FAO and FAO connected programmes in multiple countries over the past few years. Most recently we developed briefing papers and case studies on PPP structures and innovative finance models for scaling up and financing inclusive agribusiness for presentation at the 2013 Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF).

The Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines is a not-for-profit global alliance headquartered in Scotland. Their mission is to protect livestock and improve human lives by making livestock vaccines, medicines and diagnostics accessible and affordable to the millions in developing countries to whom livestock is a lifeline. GALVmed is currently supported by the UK Department for International Development (DfID) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with projects having been funded by the European Commission.
Wellspring has partnered with GALVmed on multiple market related assignments since 2010.

Gatsby Charitable Foundation
Gatsby is a Foundation set up by Lord David Sainsbury to realise his charitable objectives. One of their key focus areas is promoting economic development that benefits the poor through support to key sectors and markets in East Africa.
Wellspring have worked alongside Gatsby and their related/funded programmes since 2011. These include tea sector investments, Kenya market systems and new funds for investing into innovation in high impact growth sectors.

Kenya Markets Trust
Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) seeks to transform the performance of key agricultural and basic service markets in Kenya so that they can function better and improve the lives of those participating in them.
Under KMT’s Market Access Programme, Wellspring is managing a partnership project to determine the potential from both a commercial and SME performance perspective for short blended learning courses being offered by participating universities and colleges for MSME managers. Wellspring, KMT and a US private sector partner are also in the process of carrying out studies for potential investments into Kenya\‘s rural media marketing sector.
Mount Meru Group
Mount Meru group is one of the largest business groups with a pan Tanzanian presence and a vision to be positioned as one of the largest corporate houses in East and Central Africa. Established in 1978, the group has grown from a small trading enterprise to a leading player in Petroleum Products, Edible Oil and Logistics.
Wellspring is currently consulting for Mt Meru and other partners on various large scale investment initiatives.

Over 80,000 people from more than 100 countries have already graduated with The Open University Business School, making them the largest management school in Europe.
Wellspring has worked in partnership with the OUBS since 2010 on multiple management related assignments across Africa. In collaboration with Wellspring and PICOteam East Africa, the OUBS is a founding member of the African Business Learning Initiative (ABLI) with the joint vision of improving management education in Africa.

Sidai Africa Ltd is a social enterprise operating in the livestock sector in Kenya. Their aim is to revolutionize the way that livestock and veterinary services are offered to pastoralists and farmers in Kenya creating a more sustainable model of livestock service delivery. By 2015 it aims to have established a network of at least 150 franchised and branded Livestock Service Centres in Kenya. Each franchise will provide quality animal husbandry and health goods and services to farmers and pastoralists.
Wellspring have worked with Sidai since its inception and we partner on various business and market related initiatives.
Social Finance believes that if social problems are to be tackled successfully, organisations seeking to solve them need sustainable revenues and investment to innovate and grow. Social Finance is building a pioneering organisation to develop financial products that marry the ambitions of investors and the sector. They support social organisations to raise and deploy capital; they work with government to deliver social change; and they develop social investment markets and opportunities.
Wellspring consult for Social Finance in Uganda, working on a Development Impact Bond funded PPP for stamping out Sleeping Sickness in the country.
